At Brawley Farms, we offer high-quality, hunter-jumper-focused English riding lessons grounded in strong fundamentals of dressage, equitation, and proper horsemanship. Our program is designed to guide riders of all levels—from first-time beginners to those ready to compete at rated A shows—with a commitment to safety, skill-building, and the long-term development of both horse and rider.
Located in Jefferson, Oregon, just minutes from Salem and Albany, Brawley Farms has proudly served the equestrian community for over 50 years. With a rich history of cultivating confident, capable riders, we are proud to continue that tradition through thoughtful instruction and a supportive barn environment.
Lessons range from 30 minutes to an hour and a half in length, depending on the number of students in the group. Riders aged 7 and older are welcome to participate in our program. While younger children may be enthusiastic, we’ve found that under the age of 7, most are not yet able to safely manage the skills and information required to handle horses effectively and confidently.
We require that riders take two lessons per week in order to progress at a safe and steady pace. As with any sport, consistent practice is essential. Riding only once per week often leads to frustration for both horse and rider and can become a safety concern in a physically demanding and complex sport like horseback riding.
We are proud to offer a team of experienced and well-trained lesson horses capable of taking riders from their very first lesson all the way through jumping courses at the 2’3” level. These horses are carefully selected and maintained to provide a safe, educational, and confidence-building experience for every student.
Once riders reach a level beyond what our lesson horses can provide, we offer expert guidance in finding a suitable horse to lease or purchase. We’re here to support each rider’s journey—both in and out of the saddle.
For riders who are ready and eager to take their skills into the show ring, Brawley Farms proudly offers the opportunity to compete at both local schooling shows and rated A-level competitions throughout the summer and beyond. Our show program is designed to be a natural extension of our lesson program—structured, supportive, and tailored to each rider’s goals and experience level.
With decades of experience preparing both horses and riders for success in the competitive arena, we emphasize proper preparation, sportsmanship, and confidence-building every step of the way. Riders in our program learn not only how to ride a course, but also how to prepare mentally and physically for competition, care for their horses at shows, and handle the ups and downs of competing with maturity and grace.
Over the years, Brawley Farms has proudly taken several students to prestigious equitation finals in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York. These riders returned from those experiences with a new level of maturity and confidence—qualities that will serve them well both in and out of the show ring. Needless to say, they also had plenty of fun bringing home ribbons and championships, proudly hanging their winnings in the barn to share their accomplishments with the barn community.
Whether a rider is attending their first schooling show or aiming for success in larger, rated divisions, our team provides the guidance and support needed to help them feel confident, capable, and ready. We believe showing should be a rewarding and educational experience—and we’re committed to creating positive memories and growth opportunities in every show season.
At Brawley Farms, we believe in developing true horsemen and horsewomen—not just riders. While riding skills are an essential part of our program, we place equal value on the knowledge, care, and responsibility that come with working with horses. Our goal is to create well-rounded equestrians who understand and respect the horse as a partner, not just a tool for sport.
From the beginning, students are taught how to groom, tack up, and safely handle their horses on the ground. As they progress, they learn about equine behavior, feeding, basic veterinary care, and the day-to-day responsibilities that go into maintaining a healthy, happy horse. We believe that time spent in the barn is just as valuable as time spent in the saddle.
This hands-on education not only builds confidence and independence, but also fosters a deeper connection between rider and horse. Our students learn to read subtle cues, respond thoughtfully, and care for their horses with patience and empathy. These lessons in horsemanship go far beyond the arena—they teach life skills such as responsibility, perseverance, teamwork, and compassion.
At Brawley Farms, we’re proud to offer an environment where students become not only better riders, but better caretakers, teammates, and individuals.
Whether your goal is to compete, build confidence, or simply enjoy the partnership between horse and rider, Brawley Farms offers a safe, supportive, and experienced environment where riders can truly grow. Our program is designed to meet each rider where they are, providing the guidance, instruction, and encouragement needed to reach their personal goals—whether in the show ring or on a quiet trail ride. We’d love to welcome you into our community and be a part of your journey as you take the next step in your riding and horsemanship.
