The Brawley Team

Judy Brawley

Judy Brawley, founder and head trainer of Brawley Farms, is a lifelong horsewoman whose passion for riding began as a child in Virginia. She spent her early years borrowing a neighbor’s pony and roaming freely through woods and open fields, experiences that inspired the sense of freedom and joy she now strives to share with every rider she teaches. Together with her husband, Tom, Judy established Brawley Farms in Jefferson, Oregon, with the vision of creating a place where riders could not only learn proper horsemanship but also experience the same simple, unhurried connection with horses that shaped her own childhood.

With more than fifty years of experience in the Hunter-Jumper discipline, Judy has guided countless riders of all ages and levels — from beginners taking their first lessons to accomplished equestrians competing on the A-level circuit. Her students have achieved success in medal finals across California and the East Coast, a testament to her knowledge, dedication, and thoughtful approach to instruction. Beyond competitive accomplishments, Judy’s greatest legacy is the supportive and welcoming community she has built at Brawley Farms, where riders and horses alike can grow in confidence, skill, and a lifelong love of the sport.

Milla Rindal

Milla Rindal, assistant trainer and riding instructor at Brawley Farms, has been immersed in the world of horses since birth and began riding at the age of three. Growing up, she learned under the guidance of her mother, who worked for the Brawley family and developed her horsemanship through their program. This long-standing connection makes Milla’s journey with Brawley Farms especially meaningful. Her very first pony, Quiggley, now proudly serves as one of the farm’s beloved lesson horses, symbolizing the enduring bond between her family and the Brawley legacy.

Over the years, Milla has worked with a variety of accomplished hunter/jumper and eventing trainers across the Pacific Northwest, gaining a wide range of experience that she now brings to her own students. She is dedicated to helping riders build a solid foundation in both riding and jumping, with a patient and encouraging teaching style that supports growth and confidence at every stage. Passionate, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to the values of Brawley Farms, Milla plays an important role in continuing the tradition of excellence and horsemanship that has defined the farm.

Hugo Mendoza

For nearly thirty years, Hugo has been the dedicated caretaker of Brawley Farms, ensuring that every horse and every corner of the facility receives the highest standard of care. From stall cleaning and daily feeding to turnout and overall barn maintenance, he handles every aspect of the horses’ daily routines with skill, consistency, and genuine care. His hard work and attention to detail create a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment where both horses and riders can thrive.

Hugo’s quiet dedication and reliability make him an irreplaceable part of the Brawley Farms team. His commitment not only supports the well-being of every horse but also upholds the smooth daily operations of the farm. Trusted by staff, riders, and horses alike, Hugo is truly an integral part of Brawley Farms’ continued success and a valued member of the Brawley Farms family.

Working Students

Tressa Hewes

Tressa Hewes has been a dedicated student at Brawley Farms for over 10 years and now plays an integral role on the team as a working student. She was brought to the farm by her wonderful aunt, Sharon Shirley, and their shared passion for horses continues to be a meaningful part of their connection. In her position, Tressa wears many hats—assisting with beginner riding lessons, introducing new students to horsemanship on the ground, and serving as a supportive leader and role model for younger riders. In addition to her work with students, she helps keep the barn organized and running smoothly, ensuring everything is clean, tidy, and in top shape. She also takes pride in keeping the horses looking their best, helping with grooming and clipping to maintain their show-ready appearance.

Tressa currently rides her own horse, Movin’ On—fondly known as “Dwight”—and enjoys everything from competing at horse shows to relaxing trail rides on sunny summer days. Her favorite parts of riding include the rewarding process of learning and perfecting new skills, the deep connection we form with such large and complex animals, and the way time in the saddle makes everyday troubles melt away.

Outside the barn, Tressa is in her final year of undergraduate studies at Oregon State University, pursuing a pre-medical track with the ultimate goal of becoming a physician. A highly driven and intelligent individual, she brings the same focus, discipline, and dedication to her academic pursuits as she does to her work with horses. Tressa’s passion, leadership, and love for learning make her a valued and respected member of the Brawley Farms team.

Caitlin Teague

Caitlin has been part of the Brawley Farms community for four years, and in that time, she has become a vital member of the team. As a working student, she helps keep the barn running smoothly—grooming horses, tackling daily chores, and maintaining an organized, welcoming environment. She’s also a kind and encouraging mentor to younger students, guiding them as they learn the fundamentals of horse care and horsemanship.

Caitlin currently rides Dodger, one of our lesson horses, and their partnership has grown into something truly special. Through patience and dedication, she has developed clear, effective communication with him, and together they’ve become a confident pair in the arena—especially over fences. Dodger also accompanied Caitlin to her very first horse shows, marking exciting milestones in both of their journeys.

Now an undergraduate student at Oregon State University, Caitlin is working toward her goal of becoming a veterinarian. For her, one of the most meaningful parts of riding is the community it fosters—the friendships, the teamwork, and the unique bond between horse and rider. Her commitment, compassion, and quiet leadership make her an invaluable part of the Brawley Farms team.

With three lovely, balanced gaits, he helps riders deepen their understanding of equine movement and behavior. His quality, presence, and steady temperament enhance the learning experience for students of all levels.
